Meet The Founder

Dr. Michelle Laws, founder of Symbiotic Strategies, is a highly respected and politically astute leader with a distinguished career in various capacities, including policy, public affairs, advocacy, and health and human services program development and evaluation.

With a background as Chief Experience Officer for the North Carolina Medical Society and leadership roles at the NC Department of Health and Human Services, she gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by public and private organizations in serving historically marginalized populations.

Her significant contributions include guiding the NC DHHS’s Secretary’s COVID Response team during the pandemic, focusing on improving health outcomes for historically marginalized populations. Dr. Laws has held pivotal roles in organizations such as NAMI-NC, the Community Health Coalition, Inc., and the North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP.

As a legislative liaison for NC DHHS, she played a crucial role in major reforms in the early 2000s. A Chapel Hill native, Dr. Laws holds a PhD in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Master's in Sociology from North Carolina Central University, and a Bachelor's in Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
